Is there any problem that can’t be solved with a little essential oil?
Whenever I need a little help destressing or adding that special something to make my handmade beauty products unique, I reach for my stash of essential oils. As it turns out, these magical plant potions do way more than cure my ailments and add a pleasant aroma — they’re also perfect for natural pest control.
The chemicals in commercial bug spray may be effective, but it’s still unclear whether they’re actually safe. DEET, a chemical used in mosquito repellents, has been linked to rashes, nausea, and even brain cell death — and those are just the effects on our bodies. Because we use it so often, DEET infiltrates our soil and water. While scientific studies have shown environmental effects are minimal at current levels, I’d rather not risk it.
